Lok Sabha resumes normal business, BJP raises security issue
New Delhi, Nov 24 (UNI) After stalling the Lok Sabha proceedings yesterday on the issue of hanging of Mohammad Afzal Guru, a convict in the Parliament attack case, the BJP-Shiv Sena preferred not to rake up the matter in the House today.
However, Speaker Somnath Chatterjee allowed BJP Deputy leader in Lok Sabha V K Malhotra to raise the issue of national security briefly before taking up the Question Hour.
Prof Malhotra demanded that the government should make a statement on Home Minister Shivraj Patil's observation that nuclear power plants in the country had become ''highly vulnerable'' to terrorists after the India-US nuclear deal.
Similarly, Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Mohan Singh made a brief statement accusing the Congress-coalition in Maharasthra of resorting to undemocratic tactics by not allowing his party MP and workers to demonstrate in Mumbai.
The treasury benches, however, did not react to either of these statements.
After witnessing an uproar by the opposition members and subsequent adjournments yesterday, the winter session of Parliament today took up its normal routine with the House carrying out the listed business undisrupted.
