Asom gains 154 lead on Day II against Goa in Ranji match

Guwahati, Nov 24 (UNI) Some sensible batting by captain Arun Kumar put Asom in a commanding position against Goa in a Ranji trophy plate group match here at Nehru Stadium today.

Asom took a commanding lead of 154 runs after scoring 288 for six before bad light stopped second day's play. Goa had scored 134 in their first innings.

Asom started the second day from 38 for one, but night watchman Parvez Aziz could not long. Parvez was caught off a Faizal Shiekh's bowl on an individual score of 39.

Captain Arun Kumar thereafter took the centre stage and put Asom into a comfortable position. Arun, with Parag Das, put on 75 runs when Parag was bowled out after a well-made 50.

But Arun played a polished knock in his 95th first class match and went on to score 78 runs in 214 minutes with 14 fours'.

After Arun's departure, Vasant Sarvanan took the team to 288 for 6. At close Sarvanan (36) was accompanied by Anand Katti (10).
