Justice Shivraj V Patil appointed acting NHRC Chairperson

New Delhi, Nov 23 (UNI) Dr Justice Shivraj V Patil has been appointed the acting Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission.

The appointment is effective from November 1, 2006 until the name of the new Chairperson is announced.

A notification issued by the Home Affairs Ministry said President A P J Abdul Kalam had authorised Justice Patil, Commission Member, to act as the Chairperson.

Chairperson Justice A S Anand demitted office on October 10. He had joined the Commission on February 17, 2003 and was its fourth Chairperson.
