India-China representative of developing world: Shekhawat
New Delhi, Nov 22 (UNI) Terming the Chinese President Hu Jintao's visit to India a significant ''milestone'' in the two neighbouring countries' relationship, Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat here today said India and China being world's two largest populated nations aptly represented the core, vital interests of the developing world.
''Notwithstanding political changes, social evolution and demographic expansion, the core values and concepts represented by our two civilisations continue to flourish and the result has benefited humankind the world over,'' Mr Shekhawat said speaking at a function organised by India Council for World Affairs (ICWA) in honour of the Chinese President.
The Vice-President noted that the strategic and cooperative partnership for ''peace and prosperity'' augured well for the present and future generations of the Asian countries as well as for ''stability'' in the region and the world.
Underling the emergence of the two countries on the world stage, he said both the nations were experiencing exciting, transformational economic growth and opportunities.
''Our economies have again emerged as the cynosure of global attention and acclaim,'' Mr Shekhawat asserted.
He urged the Chinese President to harness the energies in working for the comprehensive all-round development of relations, ''showing sensitivity to each other's concerns and aspirations, in a cooperative rather than competitive framework, thus building a strong and robust relationship''.
