Ganga pollution: Saints warn of 'Jal Samadhi' in Ardh Kumbh
Allahabad, Nov 23 (UNI) Ganga Pradushan Mukti Abhiyan today warned if the government failed to release adequate water from Narora Dam in Ganga and stop city drains from discharging into the river, hundreds of saints would take 'Jal Samadhi' after January 15.
The saints have asked the Uttar Pradesh government to honour the Allahabad High Court judgement and check the discharge of city drains in Ganga and ensure release of adequate water into the river from Narora.
The saints and 'Akhara Parishad' office-bearers have warned if the flow of city drains was not checked and 300 cusecs water was not released in Ganga, they would also boycott the 'Shahi Snan' of the Ardh Kumbh Mela, which starts in January next year.
''Notwithstanding the Allahabad High Court judgement, the government did not take any action as city drains are still emptying into the river and polluting Ganga,'' Abhiyan president Swami Hari Chaitnya Brahmachari has alleged.
