DMRC extends timings of metro trains on Nov 25 and 26
New Delhi, Nov 23 (UNI) Following a huge crowd of commuters using Metro trains to visit the ongoing India International Trade Fair, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) today announced that trains on all its existing lines would run up to 2300 hrs, instead of the usual 2200 hrs.
''The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has decided to extend timings of metro trains by one hour on November 25 and 26, i.e, Saturday and Sunday, in view of the extra rush expected due to the India International Trade Fair,''a DMRC spokesperson said.
Consequently, the last metro trains, which normally start at 2200 hrs, will start at 2300 hrs on these days.
At the same time, provision will be made for connecting trains to be extended so that passengers can reach their destinations.
According to the revised schedule for the two days, while the last metro train from Rajiv Chowk for Shahdara, Rithala and Vishwavidyalaya stations will leave at 2314 hrs, the last train from that station for Dwarka sector 9 will leave at 2314 hrs.
At the same time, the last connecting metro train from Kashmere Gate to Shahadara and Rithala will leave at 2332 hrs and 2333 hrs respectively, the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson, however, clarified that the extension in timings was being done for these two days and that normal train timings would continue as usual on other days i.e, 0600 hrs to 2200 hrs.
Ever since the launching of the Barakhamba Road-Indraprastha section, which also includes a station at Pragati Maidan, the Metro system has witnessed a huge rush of commuters. 6.27 lakh passengers used the Metro yesterday, with Pragati Maidan station having a ridership of over 1.30 lakhs.
The DMRC was able to generate revenue of over Rs. 71 lakh yesterday in view of the increased ridership.
