Delhi movement towards Winter continues, mercury drops to 26.6 deg C

New Delhi, Nov 23 (UNI) A day after light rains, the mercury witnessed a sharp fall, continuing the capital's move towards winter.

The rain in Delhi and rain accompanied by snowfall in several parts of NorthWest India during the past 24 hours led to a sharp fall in mercury in the capital, from 28.8 degree Celsius yesterday to 26.6 degree Celsius today.

And, even though there was a slight rise in minimum temperature to 15 degree Celsius, five degrees above normal, the weatherman said the coming days could see a sharp fall in minimum temperatures, leading to chilly nights.

''During past 24 hours, light to moderate snowfall has occurred at a few places over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Light rain/thundershowers have also occurred at a few places over plains of northwest India,''the weatherman added.

They said though this activity was likely to cease from today as the western disturbance has moved away eastwards, night temperatures were likely to fall by three-four degree C over Northwest and adjoining Central India during the next three days.

So, while the maximum temperature in Delhi was likely to drop to 27 degree C by the weekend, the minimum temperature was likely to drop to 10 degree C.

Infact, the weather office have forecast a drop in minimum temperature to 13 degree c tomorrow. They have also forecast mist and shallow fog in the morning.

The fall in mercury over the past more than a week came after the post-Diwali weeks saw a rise in mercury and slightly humid conditions in Delhi, conditions unusual for this time of the year.

However, with a fall in mercury in the last few days and more sharp fall expected in coming days, Delhi could soon witness chilly winters.
