Resolution urging Centre to amend Constitution deferred
Lucknow, Nov 22 (UNI) The Samajwadi Party-led coalition in Uttar Pradesh today deferred its proposed resolution for adoption in the state assembly which urged the Centre to amend the Constitution to include Dalit Muslims and Christians in the reservation category.
The government postponed the scheduled resolution for the next meeting of the House proposed on December 4, after opposition from BSP and BJP.
BSP legislature party leader Swami Prasad Maurya in a written petition wanted the resolution to be sent to a select committee of the House, which will give its report within three months time.
On the other hand, the BJP was to oppose the resolution and wanted the words 'Muslims and Christians' be removed from the text.
The SP government through a resolution in the house was to demand to scrap clause 3 of the SC order 1950, by which dalit Muslims and Christians were kept out of the reservation purview.
The party was urging the Centre to include dalit Muslims and Christians in the SC category under Article 341 of the Constitition as only these two communities were left out at present.
