Chennai, Nov 22: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should prevail upon Sri Lankan President Mahindra Rajapakse when he arrives in India on November 26 to immediately stop killing of Tamils in the island nation, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said today.

Asked what should be the Prime Minister's message to Mr Rajapakse, he said India should tell him that the island's government should take steps to restore peace and prevent killing of innocent tamils, The Lankan government should explore and adopt ways and means to restore peace on the island and prevent killing of Tamils the same path. 'It (Lanka) should not try to harass or subject the Eelam Tamils to sufferings in a bid to find a solution', he added.

On DMK ally PMK's opposition to the visit of Mr Rajapakse to India, Mr Karunanidhi said each party had been expressing sentiments about Tamils in their own way. 'This should be construed as the feelings of the entire Tamil community.' It may be noted that the PMK and DPI, both allies of the DMK-led DPA and the MDMK had announced agitations to condemn Mr Rajapakse's visit.
