Monitoring Committee submits report to SC
New Delhi, Nov 22 (UNI) The Supreme Court apponited Monitoring Committee (MC) today submitted its report to the court on the verification of 18,459 affidavites filed by the traders in Delhi informing the committee that they have closed down their shops.
The committee has, however, recomended to the apex court that the private schools operating from residential areas should be allowed to continue at least till the end of current academic session as the annual examinations as well as board examinations are round the corner.
Delhi Schools Federation, having 1,700 private schools as its members, has already approached the Supreme Court against sealing of the schools on the grounds that they were not carrying on any commercial activity and the academic year of about eight lakh students will be in jeopardy if the schools are closed by the MCD.
These schools are recognised by the Directorate of Education, Delhi and are affiliated to CBSE.
The fate of about 25,000 Delhi traders who gave an undertaking to the apex court that they would stop their commercial activities from the city's residential areas by June 30, 2006 is also likely to be decided tomorrow by the Supreme Court .
