Lankan naval personnel fire at Indian fishermen, two injured
Rameswaram, Nov 22 (UNI) Two Indian fishermen were injured as Sri Lankan naval personnel opened fire at a boat in which six fishermen had put out sea off Pamban coast in Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu.
Offical sources said while Mr Arulanandham (39), who was piloting the boat, suffered bullet injuries on his forehead and wrist, Pertex (33), who attempted to save him, was hit on the neck, they said.
The injured Mr Arulanandham managed to sail the boat all the way from Kachateevu to Rameswaram, and both the injured were admitted to a hospital here. Mr Arulanandham was refered to Government Rajaji hospital at Madurai as his condition was worsening, the sources said.
However, four other fishermen who were on the same boat, escaped unhurt. Police are investigating.
