Key member of crime syndicate remanded to police custody

Mumbai, Nov 22 (UNI) A key member of an organised crime syndicate, Mohd Zahid Abdul Majid, suspected to be involved in the bomb blasts in Malegaon, was today remanded to police custody till December six.

Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of the Mumbai Police had arrested Majid from Yavatmal yesterday.

Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) Judge M R Bhatkar remanded him this afternoon to police custody till December six.

Twenty-six-year-old Majid was arrested on specific information from two Unani doctors. A scientific test was conducted on Salman Farsi Abdul Latif Aimi (35) and Farogh Anwar Iqbal Ahmed Magdumi (33) last week. The duo divulged details about Majid. They are in police custody till December one.

Sources said Majid was arrested in two other cases registered against him under the unlawful activities in Malegaon.

On September eight, three blasts had occurred in and around a mosque at Malegaon in Nasik district, in which 25 people died and over 240 others were injured.
