IOC wins Petroleum Secretary's Trophy for good show in 15 sports
New Delhi, Nov 22 (UNI) Indian Oil has won the Petroleum Secretary's Trophy for the year 2005-06 for the stellar performance of its sportspersons in the Inter-Unit tournaments held by the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) in 15 disciplines.
The honour was given away by Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Murli Deora. Indian Oil was also presented the Trophy for Excellence 2005-06, jointly with ONGC, in recognition of the highest number of its sportspersons winning laurels internationally during the year.
Besides this, several Indian Oil sportspersons bagged the top PSPB honours. Table Tennis ace Achanta Sharath Kamal was named the Sportsperson of the Year 2004-05 while another IOCian Badminton star Aparna Popat won the award for the Elite Sportsperson for the same year.
For the year 2005-06, IOCians Sharath Kamal and cricketer Wasim Jaffer were chosen the Elite Sportspersons of the Year. For the year 2004-05, golfer Irina Brar received the Meritorious Sportspersons award while the honours for year 2005-06 went to shuttler Chetan Anand, chess star Surya Shekhar Ganguly as well as shuttler Aparna Popat.
