Bypoll to lone UP Rajya Sabha seat on Dec 11

Lucknow, Nov 22 (UNI) The Election Commission will hold the Uttar Pradesh Rajya Sabha bypoll on December 11 to fill the seat, which fell vacant following the death of Independent member and hotelier Lalit Suri.

According to principal secretary (assembly) and returning officer R P Pandey, the notification for the bypoll would be issued on November 24 and nominations accepted from that day.

The last date of filing of nominations is December one, while scrutiny of nominations would be done the following day. Candidates can withdraw nominations till December 4.

Mr Pandey said, if required, the election would be held on December 11.

Mr Suri died in London on October 10. The tenure of the seat expires in July 2010.
