AP Govt implements Jayati Ghosh Panel recommenditions
Hyderabad, Nov 22 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Government had accepted and implemented the recommendations of the Jayanti Ghosh Committee for farmers' welfare.
The commission made 176 recommendations for the farmers welfare and the state government had implemented most of them.
Nine recommendations were referred to the Centre, NABARD and RBI while six were not accepted, according to an official release here today.
Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy expressed satisfaction over this 'substantial' achievement and reiterated his government's commitment to the welfare of farmers and prevent suicides among them once and for all.
He was happy that there was a substantial fall in the number of suicides. Compared to 179 farm related suicides reported during August 2004, it had drastically come down to eight each in January, February and March this year and just six and five during April and May and four each during June and July this year.
While 416 suicide cases were reported during August-October 2004, it had come down to just 13 during May-July this year.
The Chief Minister had asked the Revenue Department to send a delegation of officials to West Bengal to study the owner-tenant farm issues and the methods to solve them.
He also wanted the Agricultural Department to popularise the organic farming in a big way.
