Vijaykanth fans had miraculous escape in boat accident

Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, Nov 21 (UNI) Overzealous fans who came in large numbers on a coracle to have a glimpse of actor-politician Vijayakanth, had a miraculous escape when their small boat capsized in Vellar river at TV Puttur village in this district today.

Police sources said Vijayakanth, representing Vridhdhachalam constituency in the Assembly, came to inspect a culvert washed away in heavy floods, affecting some 25 villages in the area.

As the news about Mr Vijayakanth's visit spread, a large number of villagers made a beeline to the place.

About 20 people from a nearby village came in a coracle, which could actually accommodate only half the number. Due to overcrowding, the coracle started shaking and suddenly capsized in the river.

The villagers were immediately rescued and rushed to a hospital in Virudhunagar.
