UP Rajya Sabha bypoll on Dec 11 to fill Lalit Suri's seat

New Delhi, Nov 21 (UNI) The byelection to the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh to fill the vacancy caused by the death of hotelier Lalit Suri will be held on December 11, the Election Commission announced today.

It also announced that the bypoll to the Maharashtra Legislative Council from Aurangabad division teachers' constituency, caused by the death of Vasant Shankarrao Kale, will be held on December 18.

For the UP Rajya Sabha bypoll, the date for issue of notification is November 24. The last date for filing nominations is December 1.

Scrutiny will be held on the following day, and the last date for withdrawal of candidatures is December 4. Counting of votes will be taken up on December 11, the date of polling, and the election process should be over by December 13.

For the Maharashtra Council byelection, counting of votes will be taken up on December 20 and the election process should be completed by December 22. Rest of the dates are the same as that for the UP bypolls.

Suri's term was to expire on July 4, 2010, while Kale's term was up to December 5, 2010.
