HC directs to accept tax from Sikkim, Bhootan lotteries
Kochi, Nov 21 (UNI) The Kerala High Court today directed the State Government to accept tax from the agencies of the Bhootan and Sikkim Lotteries.
Mr Justice K Balakrishnan Nair issued the directive on a writ petition by the agencies of these lotteries against a show-cause notice issued to them by the State Government.
while pending the show-cause notice no tax has been accepted by the State Government. As per existing rules the lottery companies have to pay two months tax in advance for conducting the lottery business in the state.
The Court directed the government to accept the one month advance tax so that the lottery companies could conduct business in the coming month also.
Senior Supreme Court lawyer Soli Sorabjee appeared for the lotterry companies.
