47th Annual National Conference of ISHTM to be held in Guwahati

Guwahati, Nov 21 (UNI) The 47th Annual National Conference of the Indian Society of Haematology and Transfusion Medicine (ISHTM) will be held here for the first time in North East India from November 24 next.

More than 400 delegates from all over the country and abroad will attend the three-day conference. Eminent National and International faculties in Haematoloy will deliver the current state of art lectures in the conference.

Speaking to newsmen here today, the organising Secretary of the conference, Prof. P K Gogoi, head of the Dept. of Haematology, Guwahati Medical College said that the programme has been designed to include diagnostic and therapeutic haematology, which will be of benefit to Laboratory and Clinical Haematologists, Medical Oncologists,. Pathologists, Pediatricians and Physicians who are treating such disordes.

This event will provide an excellent opportunity to interact with specialists from all over India and abroad in the field of haematology and allied specialities.

He revealed that about 50 per cent women in India are suffering from anaemia and Leukemia. 40per cent of such disease have been reported from Asom alone, he said.

Prof. David Oscier of U K said that expertise can give us lot of opportunities to treat the disease, he said.

The treatment of Haematology is very expensive but the disease is curable, he said. Genetics and environment are some of the causes for this disease, he revealed.
