Rahul Mahajan denies wife abuse story, Shweta supports him

Mumbai/Dehra Dun, Nov 20 (UNI) The scandal-dogged son of late Pramod Mahajan today hit the headlines again following reports of wife abuse even as Rahul and Shweta Mahajan categorically denied that their less than three-month-old marriage was on the verge of collapse due to physical and verbal battery.

Rahul refuted as ''baseless'' a city-based tabloid report that his fledgling marriage was on the verge of collapse because of ''physical and verbal abuse''.

A Mumbai daily claimed that Rahul had ''regularly beaten and thrashed Shweta'' from the day he married her and the story was accompanied by a photograph which showed Shweta with a bruise on her right arm.

''This is an invasion of our privacy and they (media) have not even bothered to take our reaction before making these allegations,''he said and added that their family has been constantly hit by crises in the last few months but would face them.

Speaking about the photograph which shows Shweta with a bruise, the late BJP general secretary's son said photographs could be doctored using software.

He said Shweta was in Dehra Dun and on her return, they would discuss the matter and contemplate action.

Meanwhile in Dehra Dun, Shweta Mahajan also came out in support of her husband and dismissed reports of physical or mental abuse.

''It is only a baseless rumour,'' she told mediapersons at her parent's home . She also urged the media not to violate her privacy.

Shweta's father Brigadier HC Singh said she had come to her parental home yesterday as other brides do after marriage. ''We would certainly take possible legal action against anybody trying to malign the name of our family,'' he said.

Rahul, who was involved in a drug controversy immediately after the death of his father and is embroiled in a narcotics case, married Shweta, his former colleague from Jet airways and a pilot, less than three months ago.
