CPM Panchayat pradhan suspended for role in farmers' protest

Sriganganagar, Nov 20 (UNI) The Rajasthan government has suspended the Pradhan of Anoopgarh Panchayat Samiti in Ganganagar district for his involvement in the ongoing farmers' agitation for irrigation water from Indira Gandhi Canal Project.

The State government's orders regarding the suspension of CPM leader Pawan Duggal was received by the district administration today. The state government had ordered investigations against Duggal.

Duggal, a frontline leader of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Samiti, is currently in judicial custody. Several cases have been lodged against in him in connection with the farmers agitation, which began in Ghadsana on Oct 16.

According to primary investigative reports of Gramin Vikas and Panchayati Raj department, he had refused to work as pradhan of the Anoopgarh Panchayat samiti and had worked against the dignity of the post.

According to the reports, 11 cases have been registered against Duggal in Anoopgarh, Ghadsana and Suratgarh police station under the Indian Penal Code.

Under Section 38-1 of Panchayti Raj Act, Duggal was found to be guilty, and thus he has been suspended, and will not be able to participate in any Panchayat Samiti meetings and other Panchayat activities.

Duggal was the first CPM leader to be elected as pradhan of Anoopgarh Panchayat Samiti.
