Chennai, Nov 20 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today announced an assistance of Rs 50,000 to the parents of a girl student whose body was found floating in a well near the school at Omalur in Salem district on Saturday.

The girl, Suganya, studying in plus two at a private school by staying in the hostel, was reported missing on November 16 and later her body was found in the well on October 18.

Expressing anguish over the incident, Mr Karunanidhi offered his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and announced the assitance from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund.

The incident triggered violence and the locals ransacked the school premises and set fire to the computer room. They also damaged several furnitures in the school and resorted to a road roko agitation demanding action against the school management.

Locals alleged that this was the fourth incident in the last one year and blamed the 'callous' attitude of the school management in preventing such incidents.

Police said the watchman and the clerk of the school were arrested yesterday in connection with the girl's death, while 11 people who had indulged in violence were also arrested.
