Young sculptors pay sandy tribute to Rani Laxhmi Bai
Varanasi, Nov 19 (UNI) Four fine arts students from the Benaras Hindu University (BHU) here this evening paid a sandy tribute to great warrior and freedom fighter Rani Laxmi Bai on her 172nd birth anniversary.
The sculptor quartet -- Suraj, Nokil, Himanshu and Balram -- students of Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) battled with the strong wind to sculpt a larger than life sand sculpture of the great warrior, who was born in this holy city 172 years ago.
''Creating the sand image of the great warrior on the banks of the Ganga river, even as her birth-place in the Bhadaini locality lies neglected, is like overcoming a gargantuan challenge,'' said Himanshu and Nokil.
A result of over five hours creative endeavour was later decorated with 172 candles, which appeared much more radiant than the celestial evening Ganga Arti taking place on the Dashwashamedh Ghat on the opposite bank of the sacred river.
