Sabharwal underscores Information technology use in Judiciary

Bhubaneswar, Nov 19 (UNI) Chief Justice of India Y.K.Sabharwal today underscored the importance of Information technology in the judicial process.

''Unfortunately the nation is way behind in terms of recording evidence and filing of petitions by e-mail,'' he said during the launch of a website of Orissa Advocate General's office The Chief Justice of India said in the recent years the great advantage of Information technology has been felt by way of computerisation and video conferencing.

''Many states have started remand work by video conference as it had benefited both the accused as well as the state in terms of expenses as well as security,'' he remarked.

''We are trying to connect all state Judicial Aademies with the National Judicial Academy to help share resources,'' he said, that expressing hope advantages of information technology would percolate to the department as well as to the litigating public.

Chief Justice of Orissa High Court S.Burman Roy, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Law Minister B.B.Harichandan, Advocate General B.K.

Mohanti were present.

The website was formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. State Advocate General B.K.Mohanty said the website would be posted with writ petitions, counters and in some cases arguments.
