Natl Convention of Farmers on Dec 2

Mysore, Nov 19: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will inaugurate a two-day National Convention of Farmers, organised by the Consortium of Indian Farmers Association, in New Delhi on December Two, Karnataka Farmers Federation Convenor K Shanta Kumar said today.

Talking to newsmen here, he said that more than 5,000 farmers from all over the country are expected to participate in the Convention.

The Convention would discuss, among other issues, support price for Sugar cane, compensation to crop loss, pension scheme for aged farmers, budget allocation to the Agriculture in the coming budget, overall irrigation facilities and free power supply for irrigation besides loan facilities to the farmers on par with other sectors.

Mr Kumar, who is also the Mysore and Chamarajanagara District Sugar cane Growers Association President, urged the Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy to announce the support price of Rs 1500 per tonne for Sugar cane.
