LNJP Resident doctors' strike continues

New Delhi, Nov 19 (UNI) Emergency and OPD services in the state-run Lok Nayak Jaiprakash Hospital today continued to remain crippled on the second-day of the indefinite strike by over 300 resident doctors and interns.

Patients are being returned without treatment due to the strike, called in to protest against an alleged assault on a medico by relatives of a dead patient.

The resident doctors are claiming that the relatives of a casualty patient who died yesterday had assaulted their colleague alleging negligence during treatment.

However, the patients family are accusing the doctors of negligence in treatment.

The striking doctors are demanding additional security in view of the incident.

The other demands included lodging an FIR against the family and deployment of Police PCR van in the hospital.

''Over 50 relatives of the patient stormed the emergency ward and thrashed the doctor alleging negligence,'' LNJP Resident Doctors Association president Jitendra Singla said.

''They alleged that the patient died due to medical negligence, which is not true. We need security for ourselves,'' he added.

Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr V K Ramteke told UNI that most of the demands of the medicos had been accepted but the strike had still not been withdrawn.

''We have lodged the FIR and requested the police to send a PCR van,'' Dr Ramteke said.

About deployment of former personnel for security in the hospital, he said he had informed senior hospital officials and the Delhi Health Ministry about the issue.

''That is part of the administrative reforms and that does not happen overnight,'' he pointed out.
