Chanderpaul hungry for runs after 100 tests
MULTAN, Nov 19 (Reuters) West Indian batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul said his hunger for runs has not diminished after racking up 100 tests.
Chanderpaul became the eighth West Indian to reach the milestone in the second test against Pakistan today.
''It's obviously a great feeling to make it to 100 and a great achievement,'' Chanderpaul said.
''I have had a lot of injuries and there have been lot of ups and downs in my career so it is satisfying.'' The lefthander from Guyana, who has scored 6,617 runs with 14 centuries since his debut in 1994, said discipline, determination and perseverance had helped him reach the mark.
Playing 100 tests was a goal he had set from the start and he now wanted to carry on and meet other targets, Chanderpaul said.
''I back myself to achieve those goals because I love batting more now and am more mature and confident,'' he added.
''I could have done without those injuries and play on more.
To go out of the game with an injury and then come back and restart is not easy.'' Chanderpaul, who was doubtful for the tests in Pakistan due to a stomach bug, lost the captaincy to Brian Lara before the DLF one-day tournament in Malaysia in September after a miserable run that saw him lose 10 of 14 tests and 14 of 16 ODIs.
