BCCI to organise women's cricket tournaments

Chandigarh, Nov 19 (UNI) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) which has taken over the Indian Women Cricket Federation would now organise all women's cricket tournaments.

Confirming this here today, BCCI Joint Secretary M P Pandove told UNI that the Board would conduct two tournaments for women -- seniors and under-19. This year the inter-state tournament on the Ranji Trophy pattern would be conducted from November 27 to December five, he added.

''However, due to time constraint this year, it would not be possible to organise tournaments for Under-19. We will concentrate on seniors this year,'' Mr Pandove, who is also secretary of the Punjab Cricket Association said.

Mr Pandove disclosed that after the zonal tournaments, Indian women's team would be selected for the Asia Cup to be held in January next year.

Meanwhile, as per the BCCI guidelines, the North Zone one-day limited overs women cricket tournament will begin on November 27 and the PCA has decided to hold trials for women cricketers on November 22 at the PCA Cricket Stadium, Mohali.

All women cricket players who are either bonafied residents of Punjab/Chandigarh or born or serving here are eligible to participate in the trial. The PCA has also asked its District Cricket Associations to recommend cricketers of their districts for trails.

The selected Punjab team will participate in the inter-state North Zone one day limited overs tournament. The Zonal team will be selected on December 5, after completion of the tournament.
