85% voter turnout in Kolhapur for eight municipal council elections

Kolhapur, Nov 19 (UNI) About 85 per cent of the voters today exercised their franchise to elect 181 members to the eight municipal councils in this district. There are a total of 705 candidates in the fray.

The polling ended at 1700 hrs today and was reported to be peaceful. There were no untoward incidents reported from any part of the district, police said.

Following are the polling percentages recorded in the eight municipal councils: Jaisingpur recorded 79.46 per cent voter turnout, Malkapur recorded 88.68 per cent, Peth-Vadgaon -- 80 per cent, Murgud -- 90.80 per cent, Kagal -- 90 per cent, Kurundwad -- 85 per cent, Gadinglaj -- 81 per cent, and Ichalkaranji -- 82 per cent.
