Congress MLA Nana Patole begins hunger strike in Nagpur prison
Nagpur, Nov 18 (UNI) Congress MLA Nana Patole began a hunger strike at the Central Jail here today, demanding the arrest of the prime suspect in the rape and murder of a minor girl in Bhandara district in Maharashtra's Vidarbha region last month.
Mr Patole and 110 others were brought to the Central Jail here yesterday after being arrested in Bhandara a day before while staging protests in violation of prohibitory orders. They were all brought to Nagpur because they could not be accommodated in Bhandara.
The MLA began his fast this morning despite being denied permission, official sources said.
Ankita Lanjewar, a ten-year-old girl, was raped and subsequently murdered at Lakhandur in Bhandara district. The prime suspect, Sudhakar Ramteke, is a habitual offender, and has been absconding since then.
