Chandigarh belongs to Punjab, says Punjab CM
Nawashahar, Nov 18: Taking a dig at his Haryana counterpart Bhupinder Singh Hooda's statement that Chandigarh belonged to Haryana, Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today said the capital was exclusively meant for Punjab and Haryana should shift its capital somewhere else.
''Haryana should move out on the lines of Himachal Pradesh which built its own capital after separating from Punjab,'' the Punjab chief minister said while addressing mediapersons after inaugurating a high level bridge over the Satluj river, linking Khanna with Nawanshahar.
Capt Singh said Chandigarh was conceptualised and developed as the capital of Punjab by Late Pratap Singh Kairon, the then chief minister of the state.
The chief minister said with the completion of this bridge, some areas of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh like Dalhousi, Chamba, Dharamshal, Kangra along with the areas of Punjab in Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Nawashaher districts were being connected to Delhi with a distance reduced by 50 Km.
Earlier, Capt Singh also laid the foundation stone of the 19 Km Nawashaher-Rahon bye pass.
