ATS nabs four-member gang out to extort money
Ahmedabad, Nov 18 (UNI) Gujarat Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) today nabbed four members, including a woman, of a local gang while they were extorting Rs ten lakh as protection money from a city-based builder in posh Shahibaug area of the city.
ATS Director General of Police (DGP) D G Vanzara told reporters here that the gang had asked the builder, Nitin Soni, to give them Rs 25 lakh as protection money. Otherwise, his life could be in danger.
Finally, the protection money amount was settled at Rs 10 lakh.
But, Mr Soni recorded all the threatening calls made by the gangsters -- Siddiqui Isha Mullah, Rajubhai Sapre, Mohammed Hussain Ramzan and Karima Hanif Malani -- and later transferred all data on a compact disc and handed it over to the ATS, he said.
ATS team set up a dragnet to arrest the gangsters, while they were accepting the protection money near Lalit Palace Hotel in the area, he said.
