Man charged with murder acquitted, still in jail
Mumbai, Nov 17 (UNI) A 33-year-old man, who was acquitted by the Bombay High Court on September 27 this year in a murder case of 2002, is still lodged in jail.
The High Court had acquitted Babulal Sahu in the case in which a Thane Session Court had sentenced him to life imprisonment. He was arrested on October 9, 2002.
However, Sahu filed an appeal before the High Court on the grounds that the deceased had tripped and fallen on a weight lifting rod that he was carrying. The deceased had sustained head injuries and died, and contended that it was not murder as held by the Session Court.
A Division Bench, omprising Acting Chief Justice V G Palshikar and Justice Nishita Mhatre, acquitted him and directed him to be released.
The petitioner's Advocate Yug Chaudhry says that it has been about two months from the date of his acquittal but Sahu is still languishing in jail.
He told reporters that he had reported the matter to the Registrar of High Court, but no action was taken.
Sahu's sister has been running from pillar to post to free her brother.
