Mamata flags off 'Dandi' march to Singur
Kolkata, Nov 17 (UNI) Threatening the Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee Government of 'dire consequences', Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee today flagged off a 'Singur-Dandi march' with a vow to stalling acquisition of farm land for industries.
'' Gandhiji walked in the Dandi march fighting for the subjugated nation. Today's march to Singur is a symbolic movement to frustrate taking over agricultural land every where in the state,'' she said.
With party workers carrying sticks emulating those following Gandhiji for the Dandi march, the procession would walk in phases for four days to reach Singur in Hooghly district, the site for the Tatas' small car factory.
Senior Trinamool leader Ajit Panja led the procession that started with fanfare, while Mamata walked few minutes before retiring pleading a pain she ''suffered in lathi charge by police'' at Singur during a demonstration on September 25.
Urging all anti-CPI(M) forces to join her movement, the Trinamool leader alleged that the Left Front government was trying to snatch away the people's livelihood by acquiring agricultural land in the name of industrialisation.''Our slogan is Roti, Kapda aur Makan.
People can not survive without these basic things,'' she said.
She alleged that everywhere in the state agricultural land was being handed over to a few 'promoters'and the acquisition process was being done with the help of money and muscle power.
''Do not play with fire, or else you will burn your hands,'' Ms Mamata warned the Chief Minister, who was the main target of her assault.
'' Mr Bhattacharjee has challenged us, but we shall give him a fitting reply and capture Singur,'' she said.
Announcing a long-drawn anti-government movement, she said she would begin the second phase of her anti-acquisition programme at Bhangar--the agrarian area in South 24 Parganas district where the Indonesian Salim group has proposed to set up its projects.
