Inflation up at 5.3 pc due to increase in food prices
New Delhi, Nov 17: The annual rate of inflation for the week ending November 4, rose to 5.3 per cent as against 5.09 per cent during the previous week, due to an increase in the prices food articles and manufactured products.
The inflation rate calculated on a point-to-point basis, stood at 4.04 per cent during the corresponding week of the previous year, according to official figures released here today.
The Reserve Bank of India has said easing of global crude oil prices should help ease inflation pressures, which is India's biggest import item.
''Although the absence of complete pass-through was a cause of concern from the future inflation point of view, the recent easing of international oil prices should provide the much needed relief,'' the central bank said in its annual Trend and Progress of Banking in India report released last week.
