Windies spinner Mohammed seeks more opportunities

LAHORE, Nov 16 (Reuters) West Indies spinner Dave Mohammed is hoping to be given more opportunities in test cricket after struggling to force his way into the side since his debut two years ago.

A rarity in a West Indies side long renowned for producing world class pace bowlers, Mohammed improved his reputation with the wicket of Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq in the opening test defeat in Lahore that finished on Tuesday.

''Getting Inzamam's wicket was a big boost to my confidence.

His wicket was special as he is a top bat,'' the left-arm bowler said on dismissing Inzamam for a duck.

''His wicket has helped raise my confidence for the rest of the series,'' Mohammed added today.

''I want to make a greater impact in the team as a bowler and batsman. I want to put up my hand and be counted when the opportunities come my way. This tour will make me a better bowler.'' Mohammed made his debut in January 2004 against South Africa in Cape Town but has only played in three tests since, against England, India and now in Pakistan.

''I think I tried hard in the first test (against Pakistan) as I wanted to be the best bowler on the team after the disappointment of not getting many matches following my debut,'' he said.

Pakistan won the first match of the three-test series by nine wickets and Mohammed returned figures of 3-98.
