Vedanta to set up 2,400 MW plant in Orissa at $1.9bln
New Delhi, Nov 16 (UNI) Independent private power producer Vedanta Resources Plc will set up a 2,400 MW greenfield power plant in Jharsuguda, Orissa at a cost of 1.9 billion dollars, phased over four years.
The power generated will be sold to the State Electricity Boards and power trading companies, a company statement said.
It would require 13 million tonnes per annum of coal to run the 2,400 MW power plant, which would be obtained from coal blocks to be alloted.
The project includes boiler and generating unit common facilities including coal handling systems, water treatment plant, cooling water systems, instrumentation, control tower and all necessary infrastructure including railway networks, water pipelines and a township for employees.
The investment will be funded through a combination of internal resources and external financing.
The project will be operated through Sterlite Energy Ltd (SEL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sterlite Industries India Ltd.
SEL has commenced construction of the first phase of the project comprising four units of 600 MW each, while the second phase, which has not yet been approved by the company's board, would cover 1,200 MW comprising two units of 600 MW each.
