Tiger foray enhances Ramgarh sanctuary status
Jaipur, Nov 16 (UNI) Ramgarh sanctuary in Bundi district should be included in the Tiger Project as a tiger from Ranthambhore recently wandered into the area and found its environment conducive for stay, say wildlife experts.
Although the tiger from Ranthambhore, which wandered along the banks of Mej river in Lakheri-Indergarh area in Ramgarh forests for the past five days, went back to Ranthambhore sanctuary yesterday, wildlife watchers feel the tiger can return to this area.
Ramgarh forests in Bundi district is approximately 100 km from Ranthambhore Santuary in Sawai Madhopur district.
Vijay Kumar Salwan, Divisional Forest Officer, Bundi district, told UNI Ranthambhore already has 25 tigers and space is a problem for them. A tiger needs approximately 40 sq km forest area to venture out.
He said of the 25 tigers, the younger ones now wants space for themselves, where they can lord over and dominate. That is why the lone tiger strayed into Ramgarh forests.
Since it managed to stay there for five days, satisfying its hunger pangs, there were chances that the tiger may return to Ramgarh forests.
Mr Salwan said if Ramgarh Forests and Keladevi sanctuary are included under the Ranthambhore Tiger Project, it will facilitate an increase in tiger population in the area.
Yesterday the tiger, which was camping on the rocky banks of Mej river for the past few days, wandered towards the mountains of Balwanbalaji, and reached the banks of Chalak river. Later he crossed the river and reentered the Ranthambhore forests, which is situated on the edge of the river.
