Srinagar, Nov 16 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has quashed the detention of an Uttar Pradesh resident, who was charged with spying for Pakistan.

After hearing arguments of both the sides, a single bench of Justice J P Singh said the ground relied upon by the District Magistrate in the case of Jetinder Singh Sirohi was ''vague''.

Sirohi had arrived here from Uttar Pradesh in 2000 and jointly with a local, Rahmatullah Khan, published a newspaper from here.

However, he was arrested in 2004 on the charges of spying for Pakistan and booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA). He was lodged in Kot Balwal Jail in Jammu.

Sirohi was charged with passing on vital information and pictures of defence installations and maps to ISI agents. He was also accused of establishing a newspaper here to ''camouflage his anti-national and espionage activities''.

The charges against him included installation of a computer in the office of the Public Relations Officer of the Defence Ministry here in 2000-01, which later developed some fault, enabling him to copy some 20-25 vital documents to pass on those to the ISI, on the pretextof repairing it.

Sirohi then challenged his detention in the High Court which quashed the order. However, he was not released.
