CPI accuses SP of ignoring Bundelkhand farmers' plight
Lucknow, Nov 16 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (CPI) today slammed the Samajwadi Party-led Uttar Pradesh government for its step-motherly treatment with the farmers of Bundelkhand region.
Party leader Pradeep Tiwari here alleged that irked over its defeat in the last Vidhan Sabha Assembly polls, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav was neglecting the grievances of farmers in the region.
''In the last Assembly polls, SP was badly defeated in Jhansi, Chitrakoot, Banda, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Jalaun and Lalitpur districts of the region, therefore it was punishing the farmers,'' he alleged.
Between January 2002 and September 2006, around 1667 farmers here committed suicide in the region, he further alleged.
He said the party would soon meet Uttar Pradesh Governor T V Rajeshvar and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to discuss the issue.
