Bilcare wins patent in USA for its pharma grade composite films
Mumbai, Nov 16 (UNI) Bilcare Ltd, a leading domestic pharma major in the drug discovery to market value chain, has won a patent in the USA for its 'pharmaceutical grade metalised thermo-formable composite films'.
The above mentioned pharma grade composite films is a plastic in which cavities can be made.
Addressing a press conference here today, Bilcare's Chairman&Managing Director Mohan Bhandari said this innovative packaging material would address multiple concerns and limitations of the pharmaceutical products in the market like anti-counterfeit and anti-pass off. ''The unique products under this range are Patina, Ultra and Ultra TX,'' he added.
The company's vision to partner the global pharma companies has been strengthened with the new patent Bilcare has won for the metalised films, Mr Bhandari noted adding: ''Through out innovative product range we are confident to revolutionize the pharma packaging industry not only in India, but world-wide.'' Even as domestic pharma packaging industry depends on holograms as a solution to prevent counterfeit they do not serve as an identity for genuineness as it can also be duplicated, said Mr Bhandari. Another issue that proves serious to patents, according to him, is when they accidentally consume the wrong drug unable to differentiate between the various drugs available.
With the pharmaceutical grade metalised films, Bilcare has developed products that will have their own unique identity, either through colour or the overall finish to the product and can address both these issues strongly.
In a world where protection of intellectual property rights is becoming a big concern, especially in the pharmaceutical sector, where companies need to protect their drug discoveries from counterfeit and pass offs, packaging is going to play a very critical role, said Dr Praful Naik, Bilcare's Global Chief Scientific Officer. ''A patent for packaging material as unique as pharmaceutical grade materialised films will provide confidence to the industry in terms of safer drug delivery,'' observed Dr Naik.
Companies like Elder Pharmaceutical and Alkem, amongst other major pharmaceutical manufacturers have already benefitted from this packaging product and it should be hailed as early adopters of innovation.
