Traders begin hunger strike to protest sealing
New Delhi, Nov 15: Signalling the intensification of the traders' agitation against sealing of commercial units, many trade bodies today began an eight-day hunger strike at Rajghat to demand the Centre to take immediate steps to protect Delhi trade from the threat of sealing.
The hunger strike by traders, being carried out under the banner of the Confederation of All India Traders, will continue till November 22, CAIT secretary general Praveen Khandelwal said.
Leading the hunger strike were CAIT Sr vice president Ramesh Khanna, vice president Vijay Pal Singh and Jt secretary Rajesh Verma.
Meanwhile, a traders delegation met senior BJP leader and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha L K Advani and urged him to take a traders delegation to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to apprise him of the situation arising out of sealing.
Mr Advani assured traders that he would immediately take up the issue with the Prime Minister. He also assured the delegation that in case the Union Government brings any instrument to provide relief to people of delhi and the traders, the BJP would support it in Parliament.
