North East, a conducive place for investors
Shillong, Nov 15 (UNI) Meghalaya Minister in-charge of Information and Technology Robert Garnet Lyngdoh has said the present situation in the North East is conducive for peace and ideal for private investors to transform the economy of the region.
''The mainland India should change its stand of looking at the North East with pessimism,' Mr Lyngdoh said while addressing the two-day 'Skoch North East @ Work Summit-Challenges and Opportunities' at the North Eastern Council here yesterday.
Mr Lyngdoh also underscored the need for achieving economic empowerment through the support of financial institutions.
Appealing to the people of the state to work for peace and strive for economic development, the minister said potential in the field of tourism in North East has brought out a positive image of the region.
Informing that the communication network in the North East was poor due to the terrains, Mr Lyngdoh said e-governance could play an important role to connect the people in the rural areas.
Additional Secretary E-Governance Ministry of Communications and IT (CIT) R Chandrasekhar pointed out that though IT related activities in the North East was at the initial stage but IT has created an impact on the people to understand its vast potential.
He said with the use of IT-related activities in the region, coupled with integration of other states and neighbouring countries, the negative impact about the region would be erased.
