Gov may have recommended my dismissal: Mulayam
Lucknow, Nov 15: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav has favoured early assembly polls in the state and hinted the Raj Bhawan might have recommended dismissal of his government.
''We want the election on time, and if required, before the completion of five year term of the assembly,'' he said adding that now all will depend on the Election Commission(EC) as less than six months time is left for the expiry of the tenure of the present house.
Raising the issue of Raj Bhawan's role against his government, Mr Yadav, told mediapersons here that he has specific information about state Governor T.V. Rajeshwar sending his report to dismiss the present coalition government in the state.
''There are several media reports about the recommendation and Raj Bhawan has never contradicted these reports, so there is something fishy about it,'' he said.
Ruling out any proposal to dissolve the assembly at this moment, the Chief Minister said now the ball was in the EC's court and they have to decide when to hold the polls.
''We want an early poll as it should be held after five years'', he said adding that for such reasons his party's MLAs had resigned en-mass on September 11, 2001 when BJP wanted to continue for another six month time.
He said at present it was a conducive time for the SP to contest the polls as 'people's support' is with the government for its pro-people attitude and the development initiative.
Talking about the demand President's rule in the state by the BJP and Congress, Mr Yadav as these parties do not have any issue, they are raking up the issue of dismissal.
''If any government is dismissed in such a manner then how can democracy work in the country,'' he questioned. He also added that during the recently concluded Urban Local Bodies poll, except for the Mayoral elections, opposition had been wiped out.
Commenting on the recent statement of Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP) supremo Mayawati about her party's support to the BJP and Congress in the civic poll, the Chief Minister said BSP only want's to remain in controversies through caste and communal remarks.
''My earlier allegations about BSP's nexus with BJP and Congress has turned true by their own statement,'' he added.
Mr Yadav also said his party will not mind about the BSP's agitation to burn his effigy on November 30.
