HC asks police to probe allegations of nepotism in goshala land
New Delhi, Nov 15 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today directed the Delhi Police to institute a probe by a Deputy Commissioner of Police(DCP) rank official on the allegation that the L C Jain Committee was resorting to nepotism in allotment of land for setting up 'goshala' (Cow sheds) in the Capital.
A division bench of acting Chief Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Kailash Gambhir said if the allegation was not found to be true, action would be initiated against the complainant Rajender Prashad Sharma.
In a complaint, Sharma alleged that Jain, the head of the court-appointed committee, had been allotting land earmarked by the DDA for setting up of goshala to his friends and relatives.
Adjourning the matter till November 22, the Court asked the police to file its report within seven days.
Counsel Sugriv Dubey appearing in the matter Common Cause Society vrs Union of India said Sharma was a habitual offender.
On July 2, 2004, the MCD Commissioner had written a letter to the Commissioner of Police, saying that Sharma was a habitual offender and had been creating nuisance by keeping cows illegally in the capital.
The Jain Committee submitted a report and said the authorities had sanctioned Rs 4 crore for the purchase of a hydraulic machine to nab the stray cattle from the streets.
