CPI identifies 33 seats to contest in Punjab elections
Chandigarh, Nov 15 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (CPI) today announced 33 specific constituencies to be contested by the party in Punjab, close on the heels of its alliance with the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) for the forthcoming state assembly elections.
A decision to this effect was taken at the CPI State executive meeting here yesterday, a party spokesperson said in a statement issued here today.
The 33 constituencies identified by the CPI included Fatehgarh Sahib, Hargobindpur, Dinanagar, Majitha, Amritsar (West), Valtoha, Khadoor Sahib, Tarn Taran or Atari, Adampur, Nakodar, Jalalabad, Baluana, Panjgrahi, Ferozepur Cantt, Faridkot, Nihalsinghwala, Moga, Malout, Dharamkot, Gidderbaha, Rampura Phul, Budhlada, Bathindfa, Mansa, Pucca Kalan, Dhuri, Shatrana, Bhadaur, Lehragaga, Samana, Payal, Jagraon and Amloh.
The CPI has announced these seats in consent with the CPM, a spokesperson of the CPM Punjab unit told UNI here.
He added that the CPM would also announce the seats to be contested by the party within a day or two.
Both the left allies had announced to contest the state elections against the ruling Congress and the main opposition Akali-BJP combine.
