Spastics children embark on 'Flight of Inspiration'
Bangalore, Nov 14 (UNI) Children's day proved to be the most memorable day for kids belonging to the Spastics Society of Karnataka, who embarked on 'Flight of Inspiration', a 45-minute sortie on a Boeing aircraft of Jet Airways.
Karnataka Governor T N Chaturvedi first entertained the children, numbering nearly 150, at the airport here with a 45-minute pep talk.
He posed with them as cameras clicked away merrily.
Then they embarked on flight 9W 1672 from the city's HAL airport and flew towards Mysore and returned in 30 minutes after hovering over Stanley reservoir in Mettur of Tamil Nadu. For the special flight, fuel was provided free of cost by the Indian Oil Corporation.
The sight of airplanes taking off and landing excited the young guests, who were explained the many facets of airline operation by Jet Airways' staff.
The Flight of Inspiration experience culminated with child magician Karun displaying his skills amidst the children inside the terminal.
In the century-old Century Club, it was an amalgam of another type of over 100 'special children', mainly infants and toddlers, assembled along with their parents, who had undergone various assisted reproduction methods, for the annual party.
Organised by the Bangalore Assisted Conception Centre, the party saw brightly dressed and happy looking children along with their even more happier young parents, coming together to make merry. The party was hosted by leading Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Dr Kamini A Rao, who headed the Centre.
She said an estimated ten to 15 per cent of the population in the country was infertile, but only two to three per cent of them went to assisted conception centres. Over 70 per cent of them could concieve successfully if they took the help of doctors, she added.
