Political turmoil in Bangla affects trade in Tripura
Agartala, Nov 14: The political turmoil in Bangladesh has affected trade and transport services in Tripura to a great extent.
Official sources told UNI here today that bus sevices from Agartala to Dhaka were disrupted for the second day due to the disturbances in the neighbouring country.
A large number of passengers from the state were halted either in Kolkata or Dhaka, sources said.
Trade between Tripura and Bangladesh also came to a halt and the traders had to suffer heavy losses, a Customs official at the Akhaura checkpost here said.
Only a small quantity of fish was exported from the neighbouring country, whereas all other import and export activities remained suspended as vehicles were not allowed to ply, the official said.
However, there were no reports of infiltration in the state so far due to the political unrest in Bangladesh since October.
A high alert was sounded at all the border areas and there was a strict vigil to check any untoward incident, said a police official.
Besides, the BSF and Tripura Mobile Task Force had been asked to remain alert, police officials added.
