Police fire in air to disperse mob at Amravati
Nagpur, Nov 14: The police today resorted to firing in the air to disperse a mob that went on a rampage in and around the office of the district collector to portest the Khairlanji massacre in Amravati, about 150 kilometres from here.
The police were compelled to fire 15 rounds in the air after bursting teargas shells and even a lathi-charge failed to quell the violence, that left several persons, including ten policemen, injured, police officials said.
The protestors went berserk after reaching the office of the district collector, torching a police jeep and a water tanker besides several two-wheelers, they said.
The protestors even stormed into offices and homes in the vicinity, damaging furniture and fixtures, they added.
