Lucknow's Vandana to get Geeta Chopra Award for bravery
Lucknow, Nov 14 (UNI) Thirteen-year-old Vandana Yadav would be rewarded with the prestigious 'Geeta Chopra Award'for her courage to fight with miscreants in her farm in Uttar Pradesh.
On February 15, finding Vandana alone in her farm, Dharmendra alias Tidda and two other armed miscreants tried to molest her in Ghusvalkalan village in Gosainganj area here.
The accused brutally attacked her with sharp-edged weapon 17 times. But she did not lose courage and faced them bravely. At last, the miscreants gave up and fled.
Vandana it is a great achievement for her and shows that honesty and courage are always appreciated.
The then District Magistrate R N Tripathi had also honoured her in a function.
About 23 children will be rewarded on January 26 by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Comedian Raju Srivastava's daughter Antara is among them.
Three children V Teja Sai and Durga Doondishvar from Andhra Pradesh and Manoj Chauhan from Madhya Pradesh would be awarded posthumously.
The names of the awardees were announced by the Indian Child Development Council yesterday.
